Lamp I Got at a Yard Sale in High School

I bought this lamp at a yard sale when I was in high school. It sat on my desk all through college and has been in continuous use since then. Recently, in the summer of 2023, we decided to make our guest rooom more welcoming. The lamp was not adding to the overall appeal of the room; it was time for a McKenzie Childs lamp makeover.

Prep and Prime the Base

Prep the Lampshade

I used this fabric paint for the lampshade.

I don't have any good before and after pictures.

I was not 100% satisfied with how the paint job turned out. It is not a bright enough white for my taste. But, I decided it was good enough.

Make the Ribbon

I always like learning something new. I never heard the term Rick Rack until I went to JOANN Fabrics with my daughter, and she gets the credit for the idea of gluing the Rick Rack to the black ribbon to make the trim for the lampshade.

Upgrade The Shade

I used the fabric glue shown above to fasten the trim to the lamp shade.

My wife wanted a bow on the shade, so I enlisted my crafty daughter for this task.

YouTube rescued us. She searched for videos about making bows and made this one for the lamp. I fastened it on with a little floral wire. It got the wifely seal of approval.
