Bench Vise

When my father bought his bench vise, he did not want to be limited to using it in his work room. He bolted the vise to a thick piece of wood, the base board, and then used C clamps to fasten the base board to his work bench. If he needs to use the vise outside or in the garage, he unclamps the base board and takes the assembly to where he wants to use it.

I liked that idea so I borrowed it for my workroom.

You may be asking "Why the funky paint job?" Good question. Answer is that I have a few pieces of unique furniture that I am planning on painting in the McKenzie Childs style. I decided to practice on the base board for my bench vise.

It turns out that doing a checkerboard and polka dots is a little harder than it looks. I will pass on what I learned when I do the page for the McKenzie Childs style furniture painting.

Building It

For the base board, I glued together two pieces of 18" X 10" X 3/4" plywood

6" Bench vise I bought at Harbor Freight. The brand is Central Forge.

I used 1/2" hardware to fasten the vise to the base board and the base board to my work bench. I bought the hardware from boltdepot.com. I am a mega-fan of boltdepot.com. They have a huge selection, their web site is easy to use, and the hardware always arrives a few days after placing the order.

Action Shots

I like how it turned out. Adds a touch of style to my work room.
