AM Station Map

Create and download customized map of AM broadcast stations

AM broadcast station DXing is a lot of fun. After dark you can often hear many stations on non-local channels. I built myself a loop antenna so I could null out some stations broadside to the antenna and log more stations. After building the antenna I adopted a practice of tuning to a frequency, then rotating the antenna and seeing what I could hear. This was fun but after a while I wanted to take a more focused approach. I decided it would be nice to know power, range, and bearing for all stations on a particular frequency.

I constructed a program to read AM station information from a database maintained by the FCC. I process the data and store it in an SQL database on my server. You, the user, can enter your QTH and request a customized Google Earth .kmz file that shows all AM stations in the database. On the map, the icons for each station show daytime, nighttime, and critical hours power as well as range and bearing to your QTH.
